Everyone's favorite 24/7 diner is now coming to a Schenectady location! Denny's restaurant will be moving into the old Friendly's building, which is located at 60 Nott Terrace in downtown Schenectady, within the next few months.

The new Denny's will be 4,000 square feet, and is being leased from building owners David Firestein and Robert Raphael.

The not-so-vacant building will be getting it's ultra-makeover as soon as the city of Schenectady approves the project, and it seems as though a bunch of locations will be seeing some positive changes this year:

Denny’s will undertake a complete overhaul of the restaurant over the next 4 to 6 months.  The new Schenectady location will be owned by Mr. Mahmud Kahn and Mr. Suprio Banerjee who also operate Denny’s Restaurants in Wilton and East Greenbush, N.Y. as well as locations in California, Washington and Arizona.- schenectadymetroplex.org

I think this is an absolutely prime location for Denny's. It's in the heart of Schenectady, and will be a staple restaurant for Union College and SCCC students. It's always open, so those who are up all night studying and those who are winding down from partying will most likely find the chain very convenient and catering to their needs as well to the demographic of the area. It was very smart and wise to put the new location here.

We welcome Denny’s to Schenectady County, said Susan E. Savage, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. A new business in this building once again will be great for the two colleges and for the neighborhood.

Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair and Commissioner of Economic Development and Planning in Schenectady County said, Denny’s fills a key location at the gateway to downtown. We welcome them to Schenectady County.

I can't wait to try out the new Denny's! Sure the food will taste the same, but it's always nice to dine in a brand new, refurbished restaurant, especially one you can go to any time of day or night. I will no longer have to go to the Wolf Rd. location after concerts, which is a tradition for me. Hopefully the doors will open some time this summer.

The company has more than 1,600 locations in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Guam, Mexico, Honduras, New Zealand and Puerto Rico.  Denny’s has been in operation since 1953.  It is one of the largest full-service restaurant chains with most locations open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Denny’s is well known for its Grand Slam breakfasts as well as other classic favorites.

How do you feel about this news? Are you a Union or SCCC student? Do you think the other Denny's will lose a lot of service?
