Meet The Oldest Weathervane In The United States

Did you know the oldest weathervane un the United States is on display in the Capital Region? If you have been to the Palace Theater, Empire Live, or MVP Arena for a show recently you have probably passed right by and didn't realize it.

According to Ferro Weathervanes, one of the oldest artifacts in Albany, a weathervane that dates back to 1656 on the First Dutch Church, survived fire and sat atop the roof of the building for centuries. Today, a replica sits in its place while the original has been retired to the church’s archives.
This isn't the only weathervane of distinction in Albany, New York. Arguably, the country's largest working weathervane sits atop the SUNY Plaza. Many locals refer to this as the D&H building.
I say arguably because most recognize the weathervane at the corner of Dowling and Water Streets in Montague, Michigan, as not only the largest working weathervane in the United States but also the world.
