As if it wasn't already a pretty somber day today as we we're celebrating what would have been Chris Cornell's 53rd birthday. This afternoon we got word that Chris Cornell's good friend Linkin Park front man Chester Bennington was found dead this morning of an apparent suicide. Just as his friend had almost 2 months to the day before.

The frequent senseless loss of some the most influential people in rock who literally served as a big part of the soundtrack of my life is really taking it's toll on my soul recently. I wrote earlier that it still felt like I was processing Chris Cornell's absence from the world and to have to report this loss on the air today just blows my mind. I know as we get older death will no doubt be a part of life that will become more frequent I just didn't think that I would be dealing with it as often this early.

Although I didn't know may of these musicians personally they have played a huge roll in my life. Their music has guided me through every major and minor thing in my life, good and bad, so when they die it's almost like a piece of you dies with them.

However, I take solace in thinking that maybe they are no longer and pain and the fact that they have left us with one of the greatest gifts of all. Their music. Music that will live on for generations.

So for the rest of the day Q103 will be celebrating the life of Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell with all the beautiful sounds that they created for us and stories that we can share with you. Please feel free to share your Chester or Chris stories with us in the comments!
