Remembering Stevie Ray Vaughan
We remember guitar great Stevie Ray Vaughan today (Oct. 3) on what would have been his 62nd birthday.
Guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan was born in Dallas, Texas on Oct. 3, 1954 and he began playing guitar at the age of seven. He released his debut album Texas Flood in 1983. Vaughan died in a helicopter crash at the age of 35. He had just performed a concert with Eric Clapton at Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin. In his short life, Stevie Ray Vaughan was widely considered one of the most influential guitarists in the history of blues music and was important to the blues revival in the 1980’s. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Vaughan the 12th greatest guitarist of all time and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
