You Cannot Donate These Items To New York Salvation Army Stores

When it comes to cleaning out spaces in your home sometimes you have items that you simply don't know what to do with. You could attempt to put them on the curb, but many garbage services won't accept them. You could try to haul them off to your local dump but you'll have to pay to get rid of them. Donation is the way to go, and sometimes you could even get some tax benefits from doing so. However what happens if you can't donate certain things?

As it turns out there are a lot of things that the Salvation Army won't accept if you bring them to their donation center.

What items will the Salvation Army not accept?

If you bring any of the following items to their donation centers there is a good chance it will be turned away.

• Car parts (tires, batteries, body parts)
• Console model TVs and stereos
• Built in appliances
• Paint
• Mattresses
• Any type of gas

The fact that the official Salvation Army FAQ has to list that you can't donate gas kind of scares me. That means that at some point a person attempted to donate gas.

There are also other items they won't take like items that are recalled or expired. That means a lot of baby stuff. Car seats, cribs, and items that could have different safety standards than present day. Be careful getting those types of things second hand.

If you can't donate these items you're trying to offload, Facebook Marketplace seems to be a great source to get rid of something. You could also try having an estate or a garage sale, too. Price these things as if you want to get rid of them, though. As someone who looks for a lot of vintage items people price used items far too high.
