Saratoga Urban Legend: The Devil’s Chair – Do You Believe It Has Power?
I sat in the famous Devil's Chair in Congress Park and here's what happened.
Who doesn't love a good urban legend? They're the kinds of stories that captivate our imaginations and send shivers up our spines. But is there any truth to them or are they "just a bunch of hocus pocus?"
I have explored quite a few urban legends the last few years, and while they do freak me out a bit, they also haven't come true or been proven to be real. At least not to me.

Having put Urban Legends in New York, Texas, Colorado and more to the test I needed to try out this one in Saratoga Springs.
The Devil's Chair
According to New York Upstate this chair has mystical powers. I figured while I was in Saratoga for a concert I would test out its alleged abilities and see if it really could do magic. So what power does it have?
Apparently it can transport you back in time and space.
Lore says if you sit on the Devil’s Chair, you’ll travel through time back to the turn of the 20th century. Others say it will only work if you are a teenage girl and you sit on it after midnight. - New York Upstate
I am not a teenage girl, and I sat in the chair around 4pm.
I am sad to report that absolutely nothing happened to me while sitting in this supposedly haunted chair. No time travel. No early 20th century visions. Nothing.
This isn't the only type of "evil" chair that has some sort of power in the United States. There are these types of seats all over the country. What makes this one a little more unique is that it is easily accessible since it sits right in Congress Park.
If you want to check it out for yourself it is right near the Carousel on the corner of Spring Street and Circular Street.
Spooky tale? Yes. Real? No. At least not to me.
