Saturday, January 6: Tig’s Rock Birthdays
Today (Jan. 6) we remember AC/DC co-founder and rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young on what would have been his 65th birthday. Other rock birthdays include singer Pete Loran of Trixter (51) and original Living Colour bassist Muzz Skillings (58).
Malcolm Young retired from AC/DC in 2014 after being diagnosed with dementia. AC/DC was formed by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young out of Australia in 1973. The band has sold over 200 million records worldwide making them one of the biggest selling bands of all time. Their 1980 album Back in Black has sold around 50 million albums worldwide making it one of the top selling albums of all time by any band. Malcolm Young and AC/DC were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. Malcolm passed on Nov. 18, 2017 at the age of 64. I am thankful to have gotten to see Malcolm Young and AC/DC several times over the years including in Albany at the Pepsi Arena (now Times Union Center) back in 2001 on the Stiff Upper Lip Tour. Had 2nd row center floor seats for that show! Also saw the band a few times on the 2008 Black Ice Tour. The band always put on an incredible show. Crank up some old school AC/DC today in Malcolm's honor!
