I had a fantastic summer opportunity to live in Lake George during college. It was great as I worked for a restaurant during the day and Lake Theatre at night. Do you remember that bar? On my days off, I would explore the area with one of my favorite things to do, drive Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway.

The highway starts right off Rt 9 and winds its way for 5. 5 miles up Prospect Mountain. You will have three areas to stop and take in the view: the Narrows, Lake George Panorama, and The Eagle's Eye.

At the top, you'll find a parking lot where you can leave your car. From there, you can take a shuttle to the summit or choose to explore the mountain on foot. I suggest exploring on foot.

You'll find picnic tables with amazing views and learn some history along the way. You will see historical markers pointing out where the old Prospect Mountain House used to be, which was a hotel once on the summit and burned down twice.

Besides the 100-mile view, when you reach the top, you will also see the old cable railway, which was once the world's largest cable railroad. Bring binoculars to see the village in better detail and the spectacular view of the Adirondack Mountains.

Here's what you should know before driving up Prospect Mountain. For vehicles, it costs 10 dollars to drive up to the mountain's summit and is only 2 dollars if you want to ride your bike up the top.
