Son of NY Yankees’ Legend Crashes His Car, Then Tries to Sell It?

The story you're about to read will bring about a few chuckles, but otherwise, will probably be relatively sad.

The story involves Jordon Mattingly, the 30-year old son of Don Mattingly, New York Yankees' legend and nine-time Gold Glove winner. Mattingly was driving while inebriated in his home state of Indiana, when he crashed his car into a median.

What happened next is almost too good to be true, and yet, it's all fact.

Part I: Jordon Mattingly Crashed His Car While Driving Drunk

The incident happened on Memorial Day, which was May 30, 2022, in the Mattingly's hometown of Evansville, Indiana.

As reported by a number of outlets, including The Courier Press, Mattingly was driving on the Lloyd Expressway in Evansville at around 4:45PM. A driver who saw him on the road called the police, saying that the car was driving erratically on the highway at the time.

Mattingly then lost control of the car, and crashed his silver Honda into the median on the highway. He had been going roughly 70 MPH at the time, according to reports, so luckily it appears as though he wasn't harmed.

Not only that, but it appears that Mattingly quickly hatched a plan.

Part II: Mattingly Then Attempts to Sell His Car at a Dealership

Police were called to intervene, but not at the scene of the crash. Rather, they were called roughly 15 minutes later, with the caller saying that a car with a similar description was sitting at the D-Patrick Honda Dealership, with clear signs of damage, and a tire missing.

Police arrived at the scene, and Mattingly was put through a breathalyzer test, which he failed after blowing multiple times more than the legal limit. He was arrested, and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, as well as endangerment, and public intoxication. His bond was set at $1,500, according to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office.

Luckily, Mattingly escaped with only minor injuries, and from what we could tell, no other drivers were injured during the crash or his subsequent ride to the car dealership. No matter what, one has to hope that this bizarre, sad story is a one-time occurrence for the younger Mattingly.
