Happy Birthday today (Jan. 5) to Marilyn Manson. He's 48. Also celebrating today are a bunch of 80's hair metal rockers including singer Ted Poley of Danger Danger (53), former L.A. Guns bassist Kelly Nickels (55), and ex Ratt, Vince Neil, current Black Star Riders bassist Robbie Crane (48).

Marilyn Manson was formed in 1989 by Brian Warner (Marilyn Manson) and Scott Putesky (Daisy Berkowitz) and out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The band originally went by the name Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids, and they gained a cult following in the Fort Lauderdale area for their performances in the early 1990’s. The band wore makeup and bizarre costumes on stage and were known for their shocking antics on and off the stage. Performances were deemed too obscene and offensive by religious groups and controversy followed the band often. The band's 1996 album Antichrist Superstar launched the band into mainstream success, selling over 7 million records worldwide and featuring the single “The Beautiful People”.

I've seen Marilyn Manson in concert a few times over the years, the first time being a show nearly 20 years ago that made national headlines when Manson and his crew destroyed their dressing room and hotel rooms afterwards. Check out a link about the story from MTV here.
