Thursday, July 12: Tig’s Rock Birthdays
Today (July 12) we remember one time Kiss drummer Eric Carr. He would have been 68. Birthday wishes also going out to Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci (51).
Eric Carr was the drummer for Kiss from 1980-1991. He took up the persona of “The Fox” in the band during the makeup era as the replacement for “Catman” Peter Criss. Eric Carr passed away after a battle with heart cancer at the age 41 on November 24, 1991 (coincidentally, the same day that Queen frontman Freddie Mercury passed). He is interred in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, NY. I was a big fan of Eric Carr's work throughout the 80's with Kiss, and he is very much missed. Crank some 80's Kiss today in his honor!
Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons formed Kiss out of New York City in 1973. The group rose to fame in the mid to late 1970’s with their elaborate stage shows. They have gone through many lineup changes throughout the years with Stanley and Simmons the only original members. The band’s original lineup consisted of Stanley on vocals and rhythm guitar, Simmons on vocals and bass, Ace Frehley on lead guitar, and Peter Criss on drums. The band has sold over 100 million records worldwide in their 40 plus year career.
Kiss were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. For more on Eric Carr, check out his official website here.
