Tuesday, October 24: Tig’s Rock Birthdays
Happy Birthday today (Oct. 24) to Bill Wyman. The former Rolling Stones bassist is 81.
Bill Wyman played with the Rolling Stones from 1962 until 1993. He has recorded and toured with his own band, Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings since 1997. The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and Rolling Stone magazine ranked them fourth on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Their estimated sales are over 200 million.
After Wyman’s departure in 1993, the Rolling Stones’ new record label Virgin remastered and repackaged the band’s studio albums from Sticky Fingers to Steel Wheels, and a hits collection called Jump Back was released. In 2012, The Stones celebrated their 50th anniversary with a new hits collection called GRRR! and tour dates on the band’s 50 and Counting Tour. Wyman joined the Rolling Stones on stage as a guest in London on Nov. 25 2012 and played on two tracks back-to-back, “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll” and “Honky Tonk Women”. It was announced that Bill Wyman had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in March of 2016 that he was expected to make a full recovery. Cheers to Bill Wyman on his birthday today!
