Yikes. Two state prisons will be closing as part of a budget deal, and as reported by News 10 abc, the The New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, Inc. (NYSCOPBA) has issued a statement about it.

Reading the statement, you can definitely tell it’s a passionate one.  You can read what NYSCOPBA had to say in full here, but even without reading the full thing you can see where the organization stands.  Loss of jobs, employee relocation, and an increase in prison violence are a few of the themes mentioned in the statement.  Even more blunt, the statement ends with the sentiment that Governor Cuomo and the Legislature have ”turned their backs” on prison workers [News 10 abc].

The two prisons being closed haven’t been announced publicly yet, but it seems like no matter which ones will be closing, there’s going to be a disagreement about it.  NYSCOPBA is calling for the release of which prisons it will be in their statement.  You can read more about it here.
