When you hear of stories like this one, you wonder who is so cruel that they would dump seven animals in different locations in Troy? It appears they are all from the same litter and suffering from the same disease.

Were the Puppies Sick?

According to Troy Police, all of the seven dogs found have died due to canine parvovirus. Chief of Police Steven Barker (it's a fitting last name) said,

They all appear, at this time, to be from the same litter. None have been found to have any other injury other than the diagnosis of parvo. The investigation continues as we try to determine if any crimes took place.

While Police Investigate, They Have An Important Message to Puppy Owners

Canine parvovirus generally infects puppies when they are six to twenty weeks old. This is a viral disease that causes gastrointestinal illness. According to News 10 ABC, Troy Police want residents to know that the city can help if their puppies contract the virus. They can contact Animal Control to help. If their dog is presenting symptoms of depression, high fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea, they are urged to consult a veterinarian or the Mohawk Humane Society.
