Which Capital Region Pizza Is Best In Country? Does NY Make Top 5?
Some arguments may never be settled! We could talk all day about where "Upstate New York" begins and never come out with a clear answer. Same with the pizza debate. Which state has the best pizza? New York? Connecticut or, don't even say it, New Jersey?
Rather than offer my opinion, I will let Food & Wine decide so you can get mad at them! Here are their top 5 pizza states along with some of the best places to go to get those delicious pies, including a stop right here in the Capital Region.
#5 - MICHIGAN - The Wolverine State comes in at #5 with those rectangular Detroit-style pizzas. Here are 2 mentions as the best in state.
- Cloverleaf Pizza - Eastpointe. MI
- Loui's Pizza - Hazel Park, MI
#4 - ILLINOIS - The Prairie State gets much of it's pizza love from Chicago's famous pan pizza. It's enough for Food & Wine to place them at #4.
- Burt's Place - Morton Grove, IL
- Pat's Pizza - Chicago, IL
#3 - NEW YORK - The Empire State at #3? Before we see the mistakes Food & Wine made at #1 and #2 let's celebrate a couple of shops in New York State. Starting with one right here in Schenectady.
- Perecca's - Jay Street, Schenectady, NY
- O'Scugnizzo Pizzeria - Utica, NY
#2 - CONNECTICUT - The Nutmeg State is home to rocky beaches, rolling hills and some of the best pizza in the country. Sally's. Modern and Pepe's have to top the list in New Haven, CT. Here are some, outside of NH, that Food & Wine put on the list.
- Nana's Bakery & Pizza - Mystic, CT
- Colony Grill - Stamford, CT
#1 - NEW JERSEY - I think Food & Wine had too much wine. Jersey? Let's see their choices from the Garden State.
- Papa's Tomato Pies - Robbinsville, NJ
- Patsy's - Patterson, NJ
Those are the Food & Wine results from 2021. Now take a look at our results from the Capital Region.
