If you hadn't taken notice, winter is officially here and it really made itself know the to Capital Region and beyond in December of 2025. The statistics are officially in from form WTEN meteorologist Steve Caporizzo and all I can say is that I hope that January is a little nicer to us in Upstate New York.

I had thought to myself, this has been a pretty insane weather month. Then Steve Caporizzo posted this and I knew I wasn't crazy. More than half our days were below normal temperatures, and man could you feel it every single time you stepped outside.

That was a Brutal Dec. 2025
Temps -4.7 per day
Snowfall 18.8”
23/31 days below normal.

Almost 20" of snow for the first month of winter is also pretty crazy. Compared to some of the more mild winters we've had in year's past, this was certainly our of the ordinary, but not completely unforeseen.

I know we're supposed to take the Old Farmer's Almanac with a grain of salt but they did predict a cold snow filled winter with repeated storms. So far they are pretty spot on. I did also see one prediction that said winter would start off harsh and then get a but more mild as it went on. As you when that let up is going to happen? That remains uncertain right now.

Weekend Outlook

Some of our listeners will see more lake effect snow Friday into Saturday. That will mostly effect our friends and neighbors west of Albany. But you also know how unpredictable these winter storms can be.

Just make sure you stay safe if you are traveling, especially along the NYS Thruway. Sometimes it can get very messy with this winter weather. Make sure you've got gas because the last thing you would want is to run out in the middle of traveling a snowy road.
