Most people think of September and their mind immediately goes to fall weather and cooler temperatures. While we have experienced that for a little bit it is very important to note that summer isn't technically over yet. The first day of fall for 2025 is September 22. We've still got a good week left and it is going to feel very summer like. Hot and dry, and according to the NWS we're looking at being 5-10 degrees above the average temperature for us in New York.

The Accuweather forecast for Albany shows us up in the 80s for much of this week until we get to the weekend when it will likely fall back down into the high 60s. That is certainly going to be welcome. If you thought about keeping the AC off, maybe you can't kick it just yet.

That continued warmth doesn't help with our current dry situation. Much of New York in in a drought, including Albany, Schenectady, and Rensselaer counties. So be careful if you're going to be running extra water or if you're having fires outside. You don't want to end up on the news for the wrong reasons.

If you take a look at this graphic from the National Weather Service it shows just how not normal this stretch of weather has been for us.

It was in November of 2024 that we also experienced a very dry stretch that resulted in wildfires in parts of New York and New Jersey. Let's hope that we finally get some precipitation so that history doesn't repeat itself.
