Albany Gets a New Police Dog

Albany is welcoming it's newest K9 to the family.

According to The Times Union, an 18 month old shepherd is the newest member of the police force in Albany. The new dog will replace dog Red who recently retired. The dog is yet to be named, as the Albany Police are still deciding. Police dogs are often named after fallen officers. Albany Police took to Twitter to make the announcement. See the posting below.

Police dogs also aka K9's are specifically trained to assist police and other law-enforcement personnel with duties that include searching for drugs and explosives, crime scene evidence, locating missing people, and attacking people targeted by police.
