Albany Man Found Dead on the Thruway, Police Need Your Help
New York State Police are looking for answers after an Albany man was killed after a series of strange incidents on the Thruway over the Memorial Day Weekend.
Police say shortly after 11pm Sunday, 48 year old Michael Tran of Albany drove his car the wrong way into the southbound lane of the Thruway near exit 23. In doing so, Tran's car hit a tractor trailer.
Witnesses on the scene said that Tran appeared to be ok, but walked off before police arrived. After searching the scene, Tran was nowhere to be found.
On Monday morning, police conducted another search of the area, that's when police located Tran's body around 11:45am. He was found in the median just south of exit 23. Based on his injuries, police believe he was hit by a tractor trailer.
Not many details have been revealed, but several questions remain as to why Tran was driving the wrong way on the Thruway, why he walked away from the scene of the first accident, and what were the circumstances that led him to be hit by a tractor trailer shortly after.
Police haven't indicated if drugs or alcohol were involved, or perhaps if it was a mental health issue, but they are asking anyone who may have seen anything strange in that area, to give them a call. The first incident happened just after 11pm Sunday, but police haven't said what time they believe the fatal accident occurred.
