While a divisive subject, the people of the Capital Region have voiced their overwhelming support for backing into parking spaces.

Backing into parking spaces has always been something that I haven't been a big fan of. And before anyone says it, yes I can back into the spots easy enough I just don't think it is totally necessary.

I think parking spaces were designed to be pulled into and not backed into. Maybe that is just a personal preference, but the diagonal spots at places like Crossgates Mall are 100% designed for that purpose. If you back into the spaces you're facing the wrong direction to both pull in and pull out. It just seems discourteous to me.

Yesterday I shared a story about backing into parking spaces, and in my instance I feel like I was totally in the right. You can listen to the full account below.

After I shared that story I went to Facebook to get the opinions of the Capital Region to find out what they thought about backing into spaces. I could not believe the overwhelming response I got being in FAVOR of this.

"Absolutely back in if you can. It's the safest way to go and studies prove it." - Sandra

"Yes when nobody else has to stop while you do it. No when they do." - Chris

"In a Chevy crew cab it’s much easier to back in. Even if you don’t have a camera" - John

"If you're good at it and can do it in one swing, sure. If you're going to hold up traffic for 20 minutes, just park like a normal person." - Shane

"I always back in, or "pull thru" it's so much easier and safer to leave!" - Melissa

I shared some of the accounts on the air as well, and got a fun call as well.

I see a lot more people pulling into spaces than I do backing into them, so this is why this response kind of shocked me.

If you wanna do it, go for it, but I still think it's rude if you hold up traffic behind you to back into a spot.
