COVID Still Rising, CDC Says Mask Up In 12 Upstate New York Counties
COIVD continues to bubble up as more Upstate New York counties receive the "high" COVID community-level designation.
You have to imagine that the CDC monitoring of country COVID levels will be part of the new normal as we live with the ups and downs of all illnesses in the colder months.
The kids are back to school, we are all spending more time inside, and as you would expect the number of New York counties where the CDC is reporting high community levels of COVID has crept up to 12, including 4 counties in the Capital Region. This latest county update is based on data from the week of October 6th - 12th, 2022.
So they can suggest the best practices for residents of any given county when it comes to dealing with COVID, the CDC monitors cases and has three levels of precautionary measures that the public should take based on countywide community infections. The levels are based on the number of infections per 100,000 people.
In all three designation levels (low, medium, and high) the CDC recommends:
- Getting vaccinated
- Testing for county residents who have symptoms
- Avoiding those who are confirmed to have COVID
- Maintaining ventilation improvements.
In counties with a medium designation, the CDC adds that at-risk individuals wear a "high-quality" mask or respirator indoors. When a county is given a high designation they say all residents should wear a mask in indoor public spaces.
Based on recent infections, here are the 12 Upstate New York Counties that currently have the CDC "high-risk" designation with the mask recommendation.
