New York's Letchworth State Park Voted Nations BEST!
I think all New Yorkers will agree that USA Today readers got this one right!
As part of its 10 Best series, USA Today put it up for a vote: which state parks are the best in America?
Many New York parks would be deserving of any spot on this top 10, but it is our own 'Grand Canyon of the East' that landed the top spot: Letchworth State Park located in Castile, just west of the Finger Lakes.
With its deep gorges and cliffs, stunning waterfalls, miles and miles of hiking trails, and some of the best fall foliage views on the planet, it is no surprise that Letchworth took home this national vote. Here is what USA Today had to say about this Upstate New York gem:
Nicknamed the "Grand Canyon of the East," New York's Letchworth State Park is considered one of the most scenic areas in the Eastern United States. The Genesee River runs through a gorge cutting through the park, passing over three magnificent waterfalls along the way. Hikers have access to 66 miles of trail, and rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and hot air ballooning are also on offer
New York residents are well aware of the natural beauty at Letchworth. The park is also pretty well known nationwide for its scenic views: it was recently named not just one of the most beautiful parks in the US, but one of the most beautiful places overall in nation.
