A very popular, century-old orchard in Rensselaer County has been sold.  The granddaughter of it's original owner stating that 'it was time'.

For over 100 years, the Goold family ran Goold Orchards in Rensellaer County.  Citing escalating costs among other things, a report in the Times Union states that the family business - currently run by the granddaughter of the original owner - has agreed to sell.

While the plan is for the new owners to keep it as an orchard, Sue Ellen Goold Miller and her husband, Ed Miller, are selling the farm to apple growers from Oneida County according to the Times Union.

The popular orchard has become a local treasure for 'u pick-em' apples as well as pies, donuts and crafts. The family added a winery back in 2006 , and Goold told the Times Union that the plan is to grow that venture - hopefully - in Rensselaer County.

This week, the farm will be holding an estate sale, of farm tools, as well as some of the antiques, furniture and other items that the family has acquired over the years.
