Marijuana Decriminalized in New York State After Legalization Fails
Well that's a political work-around. Turns out, since the legalization of marijuana apparently didn't work out, New York State instead decided to decriminalize marijuana in certain amounts.
Newyorkupstate.com posted that the New York State Senate voted yesterday to pass a bill decriminalizing possession of less than two ounces of marijuana. The bill also establishes procedures to expunge most criminal records for marijuana-possession misdemeanors according to the post. The New York Post also reported on this, with reports that Governor Cuomo might sign the bill as early as today, making it official.
Since the legalization of recreational marijuana as a whole in New York State started to flounder after there was a huge push over recent months, decriminalization was reported to be the next best alternate option. Something that Governor Cuomo also supported according to reports. You can get more info here.
