This story breaks my heart and really makes me mad I’m a big dog lover. As a matter of fact I have four large dogs and I can’t imagine my life without dog hair and slobber everywhere.

About 20 years ago my wife and I found a neglected dog that had been hit by a car on a highway in North Carolina. We were on our way to a Jimmy Buffett concert and we saw her on the side of the road. We stopped and found an injured, scared and neglected Great Pyrenees mix with a rope tied around her neck. I scooped her up, put her in the back of my 1965 Impala and rushed her to an emergency vet. The vet told us she thinks she was being used as a bait dog for dog fighting and that’s why the rope was around her neck. After a few surgeries, some big bills and lots of care she came home to us. We named her Buffett, after the concert we were on our way to. She was a great dog that despite a few medical issues from being hit by a car lived to the ripe old age of 17.

That’s why this story hits kinda close to home.

According to the story on www.nbcnewyork.com  road workers were getting ready to mow on I-84 heard a dog barking, and after investigating found a neglected dog tied to a tree. Police are now looking for the person that put the dog there.

It just doesn’t make sense to me why someone would do that to a dog especially when there are shelters and Humane Societies that will take an unwanted pet off your hands.
