Check your bank account. If you used direct deposit on your 2019 tax return you may already have your $600 stimulus payment. Heck you may have paid a bill with it already! If you opted for a paper check refund those stimulus payments are "in the mail" as they say. The big question is, will you get this $2000 payment that politicians have been talking about? Not by 2021 you won't.

The $600 payments are a done deal and on the way. The hope by many was that an additional $1400 would soon follow however Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says there is "no realistic path forward for the measure". McConnell also said “The Senate is not going to be bullied into rushing out more borrowed money to Democrats’ friends who don’t need the help”.

I'm not a political expert but the way I read that is that the additional funds are still possible but at what price? Time will tell.

Now back to your $600. Do you have it yet? I know you checked your account once I said you might have it already. If you don't see it in your account or your mailbox you might be able to track your stimulus payment.

The IRS has a portal for you to Get My Payment. As I was writing this the portal was temporarily down but should be back up soon.

If you are uncertain about whether you are eligible here are the facts. Answer YES to these questions and you WILL get a $600 payment.

  • Are you an American citizen?
  • Do you make under $75,000 per year?

This one-time $600 check is based on your 2019 income as well as for dependents under the age of 17. If you make $87, 000 individually or $174,000 as a couple you will not receive the $600 or the additional $1400. If that comes in 2021.
