As part of a campaign to show what New York state has to offer with outdoor activities, this Saturday and Sunday (June 28 & 29) will be Free Fishing Days.

Residents of New York can fish without a license at any of the thousands of the state's lakes, rivers, and streams. The program began back in 1991 and has continued every year since.

Governor Cuomo commented:

We want everyone to get out and experience these tremendous recreational opportunities this summer, and with our Free Fishing events, it’s never been easier to explore the great outdoors. I encourage all New Yorkers to cast a line this summer and see just what they've been missing.

Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joe Martens added:

Getting more people involved in the sport of fishing is an important component of Governor Cuomo’s NY Open for Fishing and Hunting Initiative.
