New York State’s Official Mascot is a What? But He is Adorable
It's official. New York state has a new mascot to represent our area. It was a months-long search for the right one and on Monday, Governor Hochul revealed the winner.
What is The Official Mascot of New York State?
New Yorkers were introduced to "Adirondack Mac". He is a moose mascot to be used to symbolize the Adirondacks and the beauty of the North Country. He will also be the mascot for the 2023 FISU World University Games that will be held in Lake Placid from January 12th through the 22nd. But he will also be traveling to events throughout the state.
How Was Adirondack Mac Created and Selected?
The state held a contest that started in March searching for ideas and designs for a mascot to be the representative for the Lake Placid World University Games in 2023. There were one hundred fifty people who submitted an entry and design. The entries came from thirty-five counties from across the state that submitted. It was narrowed down to ten designs from a public vote on the I Love NY website.
Who Is The Designer Behind "Adirondack Mac"?
The winning design is from Kristina Ingerowski who is a sophomore at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). She is from Farmington, NY which is in Ontario County. Kristina won a $5,000 cash prize for her design of "Adirondack Mac".
Where Else Can We See "Adirondack Mac"?
The moose will be on the loose at various events across the state. He will be making an appearance at the Schenectady Holiday Parade this Saturday. You will also be able to buy souvenirs, toys, and apparel of "Adirondack Mac".
