The town of Greenfield in Saratoga County is certainly living up to its Green name. In a first, not only for the Capital Region but the entire country, the town has unveiled a playground made entirely of recycled fishing nets and plastic recovered from the ocean.

The new playground is located at the Brookhaven Golf Course and Park on Alpine Road in Greenfield.

It covers over 5000 square feet and features a jungle gym, monkey bars, slides, see saws, swings, and many other rides and features. A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening was held on Monday June 6th.

Kevin Veitch, the town Supervisor, calls it a landmark moment that he hopes other will lead to more improvements for outdoor spaces in the town.

We are pleased to offer our residents an environmentally state-of-the-art playground and outdoor recreation space at Brookhaven. It is part of our vision to expand our recreation spaces while preserving the natural integrity of our beautiful, wide open spaces here in Greenfield.

The company that made the playground, Kompan, has been in the business for nearly fifty years, specializing in outdoor recreation equipment. They've been working on more ways to go greener, and this is certainly one way to do it. They feature a line of products called GreenLine, where they repurpose ocean pollutants such as plastic bags, textiles, food packaging, and discarded fishing products to it into recreational products. The cost to the town was $130,000.
