The Top 10 Rock Songs to Get You in the Mood!
Recent horrific news stories may have taken over the nation this past week, but I'm here for some lightheartedness among the tragedy. And to get you in the Halloween mood (sorry- not the 'Marvin Gaye' type, though you might enjoy some of that action to these rock songs too...). Because to me, October is always the most wonderful time of the year! I'm even in process of a tattoo sleeve cementing my love for the Halloween season. Exhibit A:
There is no more wonderful month to celebrate rock and roll! With the amazing rock music that has come to us with an intertwining of influences from everything occult, spooky, creepy- from Alice Cooper to Metallica- here are my Top 10 songs to get you in the October mood (and basically what I'll have on repeat for the next month)!
- 1
"Feed my Frankenstein'- Alice Cooper
Ok, well, maybe this one WILL get you in a couple different moods... Perfectly fitting for October, Alice Cooper can do no wrong. For anyone who got a chance to see him at the Palace Theatre last year, you'll understand the amazing imagery of a live oversized Frankenstein, a wonderfully deranged nurse, and pure pandemonium that comes to mind when this song comes on.
- 2
"Scream"- The Misfits
The feedback and dissonance of the opening guitar. The haunting echoes as the vocals kick in. Put the opening 30 seconds on repeat and I'm happy
- 3
"Pet Semetary"- the Ramones
Catchy, creepy, haunting, and perfectly October. At least when it gets stuck in your head, and you sing the chorus in public out loud enough by accident, people will know that you don't want to be buried in a Pet Semetary....
- 4
"People are Strange" - the Doors
A perfectly written introduction of three simple notes that leave you feeling vulnerable and full of unease, Jim Morrison starts to sing and make it all seem perfectly strange. To me, this one is a classic to put you in the Halloween mood.
- 5
"Enter Sandman" - Metallica
Is there anything more creepy and Halloween-ish than the concept of the 'Sandman' to begin with? And really, it's Metallica. You can never go wrong. Just remember to sleep with one eye open...
- 6
"Bark at the Moon"- Ozzy Osbourne
It's time to all rise and celebrate the Prince of Darkness even more! Because it's October, a month that completely glorifies bats, darkness, and everything occult. And what else comes to mind when you think of Ozzy but... bats, darkness, and the occult. Plus, this is a great song.
- 7
"Living Dead Girl"- Rob Zombie
Energy packed and perfectly rock, this one's a classic. Rob Zombie is everything amazingly offbeat about rock and roll. Let's avoid the obvious that he has 'Zombie' in his name, or that he redid the classic cinematic 'Halloween,' and just focus on how great this song is.
- 8
"Fell on Black Days"- Soundgarden
Chris Cornell echoes haunting perfection in this Soundgarden classic.
- 9
"Bat Country- Avenged Sevenfold
Right around minute 2:30 when the guitar goes wild, and it feels like you're listening to the soundtrack of a modernized 'Hammer Horror' movie. Yup.
- 10
"This is Halloween"- Marilyn Manson
Need I say more. It's not October until I hear this play.
