Today Dan America Turns Old (Video NSFW)
I share my birthday with Fidel Castro and Alfred Hitchcock, the number 13 is very unlucky though, it's probably why it is also Danny Bonaduce's birthday, it's also International left-handed day.
My school is old school now, my old school is an antique, because vintage sounds too cool, and I am anything but new school.
Everyday is the same but nothing is the way it used to be, take that Trent Reznor, I say that because one of the most depressing things about my birthday, is when I reflect on what my birthday used to mean to me.
As a kid my year revolved around Christmas and my birthday, but not so much anymore.
I think my birthday stopped feeling special when I turned 16, before that, my birthday was always such a special event, thanks to my mother, she had the tendency to turn birthday parties into family gatherings with friends.
I don't know if it's a Polish thing, a Catholic thing, or a suburban thing.
The party started night before, for some reason I used to watch "3 Amigos." The day of was a blur of people partying, cake, toys and video games, even the morning after still felt special, because I got to be alone with my stuff.
As I got older the party got smaller, relatives stopped showing up and would just send cards, and my birthday party became an exclusive gathering of friends. It's not that way for everyone, but my story is different, life happens.
I am not saying that every birthday after that was depressing, my mother still has not stopped with the family parties, I did not flip out and count down to 30, and now that I have a son, someone actually gets excited for my birthday.
I don't get too excited anymore, I did in my 20's because it meant that I was going to get drunk, but I never got laid.
One thing that I do on my birthday, that I started doing, is look back on the year of my life and ask myself "What have I accomplished?"
I like what I have accomplished this past year:
I have been working as your Albany Producer of the Free Beer & Hot Wings Morning Show for a year, I have been blogging since December, made some stupid videos, made some good videos, my kittens have gone viral thanks to Flounder and Corey Taylor.
I met Dean Ambrose in October, told him I really liked his finishing move, then he changed it a week later.
I met everyone from The Free Beer & Hot Wings Morning Show, except for Steve, I don't think he likes me.
I worked Country Fest and now I know how much fun it is to be a vender at a concert, but I also know the horror of being a ticket scanner at a concert.
Then there is all of that stand-up comedy that I do, but if you ask some of the other local comedians, they will tell you that I am not very funny, but I feel that I have successfully convinced those who they convinced I am not funny, that I am.
Here are some of my favorite performances from this past year:
Now that I think about it, I don't mind turning 34, if anything I think I have stopped caring about my age.
I have defiantly never grown out of acting like a kid.
For as long as I can remember, every year, my birthday wish has been for everyone else to be happy and get what they want, this year, I think I will make a wish for myself, for America.
