According to NEWS10 ABC, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is looking to hire 25 positions at Albany International, Syracuse Hancock International, and Buffalo-Niagara International Airports in the next few months as a part of a national effort to hire more TSA officers ahead of the summer travel season. Apply HERE.

For about a year now I have thought that being a TSA agent would be a cool job. You spend the day at the airport, use one of those shoulder radios and wear cool uniforms. I am aware that there is much more to it and these agents are there for our safety and protection. Those are more reasons that I thought being an agent would be badass.

Here are some of the actual requirements for the position:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have high school diploma, GED or equivalent certificate
  • Able to pass a federal drug screening
  • Able to pass medical evaluation
  • Able to pass background investigation
  • Available to work shifts at odd hours, occasional overtime and the ability to travel for training

So what does a starting position with TSA pay? News10 ABC reports slight differences at each airport:

  • Albany - $16.48/hour
  • Syracuse - $16.51/hour
  • Buffalo - $17.11/hour

“We are seeking women and men who want to take the initial step into a rewarding federal career and support TSA’s critical mission of protecting our nation’s transportation systems,” says Bart R. Johnson, TSA’s Federal Security Director for the airports in Upstate New York. “Applicants do not need previous experience working in security or law enforcement fields. Our officers will receive extensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and they are paid while undergoing training.”

President Biden stated Thursday that he will direct all states to make all adults eligible for the COVID vaccine by May 1st. If this happens the expectation is that more and more people will begin to travel, among other things. This opens up opportunity with the Transportation Security Administration.

There are only 25 openings currently and they are sure to fill quickly so don't hesitate!!
