Upstate New York Home Struck By Bullet! Who Pulled the Trigger and Why?
What would you do if you came home, went into your bathroom and saw a smashed mirror? If you have kids you might blame them. If you believe in ghosts you might think you've been haunted. You might even blame the dog just to make sense of why your vanity is smashed.
Then what do you think when you find a bullet in your closet? This is what an Upstate New York homeowner did.
In November, New York State Police responded to a complaint of a mysterious bullet that ended up in a resident's Upstate closet and they didn't know how. When police arrived the investigation got underway.
While examining the premises officers discovered 1 bullet and several bullet holes. Investigators mapped out the path of this bullet that entered the home from outside. Once it pierced the exterior wall the bullet made it's way through several walls before ending up in the closet.
Officers then began the process of looking for potential witnesses and interviewing as many people as possible to learn what happened. One witness reported seeing hunters in the area that day but was unable to identify them.
Officers continued to interview potential witnesses as they patrolled the area. The information they gathered lead them to one specific suspect. Environmental Conservation Officers questioned this individual and he admitted that he shot at a deer, missed and hit the house by accident.
The hunter was arrested following the investigation. This incident took place in the town of Bombay in Franklin County and the suspect recently plead guilty to criminal charges. The man no longer has a hunting license and was ordered to pay the homeowner $5000 to repair the damage to the house.
