The breach of one of the Verizon Wireless servers has led to customers PIN numbers and phone numbers to be exposed.

This impacts not just people in the Capital Region but worldwide as well. A total of 14 million customers are said to be effected. While there is no clear answer to if you may be one of the people whose information leaked, here is exactly what happened.

An unprotected server was easily accessible pretty much. Records from customer service calls where stored. The things you need to provide so Verizon can verify you are you where stored on this server. Logs of your PIN numbers and phone numbers. These could be devastating in some aspects as of course your personal info is potentially public. The statement below came from Verizon..

"Verizon provided the vendor with certain data to perform this work and authorized the vendor to set up AWS storage as part of this project," said a spokesperson. "Unfortunately, the vendor's employee incorrectly set their AWS storage to allow external access."  ZDNet.com

The discovery was made in late June of the exposed records that date back to January and there is no clear cut answer on whether you may be effected. The company is currently investigating everything. More info is in the link below.
