Video Captures Intense Snow Squalls As They Hit New York State Saturday!
Where were you Saturday when the alarms on your phone went off?
Those alerts could be heard from New Jersey to Buffalo. Here in the Capital Region, My girlfriend came into the room asking what was going on and I told her it was some alert from the National Weather Service. It's saying something about snow squalls and dangerous driving conditions. Snow squalls? How bad could that be?
I looked outside and the sun was shinning and I remember thinking, "we are getting a weather warning on a day like this?" It seemed odd to me but I didn't give it much thought after that, until this morning.
Going through my Twitter feed I stumbled upon Upstate Storm Chaser with video, which you can see below, from Saturday's snow squalls. I also saw tweets from New York State Police warning of zero visibility. As with any storm, depending where you are, it could be a hit or a miss. Apparently Jefferson County was a hit.
I guess the lesson I have learned from this is to take these alerts more seriously and know that, just because it looks sunny out your window doesn't mean it isn't happening. Here is a twenty second time-lapse video of the snow squall from the Upstate Storm Chaser YouTube Channel.
