WATCH! Here’s How NYC Got Rid of Dirt Bikes, Will Albany Follow?

Illegal dirt bikes have been a problem on the streets of the Capital Region every spring and summer for the past few years. They speed up and down city streets, disregarding stoplights and making it dangerous to drive or just walk down a sidewalk. It's especially been a problem in Albany County.

A video that went viral earlier this year shows video taken from a dirt bike on the sidewalk as Albany Police attempt to stop dirt bikers on the street.

There has also been reports of numerous thefts of dirt bikes and ATV's from around the area.

If an illegal dirt bike is seized by Albany Police, they take it and hold it until the owner can pay the fine, which is usually around $3000.

New York City has a bit of a different approach. Illegal dirt bikes are a big problem there as well. Their solution? A bulldozer.

Mayor Eric Adams and spectators watch as about one hundred seized dirt bikes are systematically crushed by the powerful machine.

Today, as we stand in the shadow of the Freedom Tower, we are freeing ourselves from these destructive piece[s] of machinery that’s on our streets. They will be crushed today so they can never terrorize our city again, each and every one of them. They will be turned into scrap metal and eventually recycled.

According to the New York Post, about 900 illegal dirt bikes and ATV's have been seized in NYC this year alone, which is almost a 90% increase over the previous year.
