This is a wild story that involves a convicted felon who allegedly shot a turkey from a vehicle parked in the middle of a roadway. This suspect's driver license was reported suspended, and he isn't legally allowed to possess a firearm but that's not all. The turkey wasn't real.

That's right, the suspect in this case shot a decoy turkey that New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) officers placed just off the roadway. Who knew a felon with a suspended driver license would open fire on the mechanical decoy? But he did.

On Sunday May 10th, as part of a detail focused on illegal road hunting in Williamstown, DEC officers Brown, Dorrett, Heckler, and Hilton placed a robotic turkey decoy just off a roadway to see what would happen.

It didn't take too long before the officers observed a vehicle slowly driving down the roadway before turning around and coming to a stop near the location of the decoy. Maybe the driver noticed it was a mechanical turkey? Nope, it appears he was duped.

The driver discharged a shotgun from the vehicle, which was stopped in the middle of the roadway, and then sped off when two officers emerged from the tree line. Fortunately, two other officers were positioned nearby and were able to intercept the illegal hunter.

The subject admitted to shooting at what he believed to be a real bird. Additionally, the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended license and is a convicted felon who is not legally allowed to possess a firearm. The case is pending in Williamstown Court.
