Summer is still in full swing! Let's not rush into fall, which begins Sunday September 22nd, let embrace the unofficial end of summer this Labor Day Weekend by going to the lake, taking in a baseball game, hiking, biking or getting an ice cream at your favorite stand.

Daylight savings time in 2024 began on Sunday March 10th at 2am. That is when we "sprung forward" and started to enjoy longer daylight hours. Summer began on Thursday June 20th giving us the longest day of the year, according to space.com.

Tonight the sun will set in New York State at approximately 7:35pm. Just one month ago, July 27th, the sun set in New York at approximately 8:15pm. We have lost 20 minutes of daylight in the last 30 days. So, when do we officially turn the clocks back?

Time and Date reports that daylight savings time will end on Sunday November 3, 2024 at 2am. At that time we will turn our clocks back 1 hour making sunrise and sunset 1 hour earlier. The sun will set in New York at 4:49pm on Sunday November 3rd.

Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School for Public Health indicates that daylight savings time was invented by Benjamin Franklin as an attempt to conserve energy. It wasn't until World War 1 that this concept was accepted globally.
