When Do We Turn the Clocks Back In New York?
Fall is in full swing! The leaves have started to change but are mostly still hanging onto their branches. We did go from a mild weekend to a frigid start to this work week so the signs are there but still early fall.
As we ease into the frosty mornings and the haunted happenings of October there is one other sign of the fall season that is quickly approaching. Soon we will be turning back of the clocks and the end of daylight savings time. When is that exactly?

Daylight savings time in 2024 began on Sunday March 10th at 2am. That is when we "sprung forward" and started to enjoy longer daylight hours. Summer began on Thursday June 20th giving us the longest day of the year, according to space.com.
Tonight the sun will set in New York State at approximately 6:12pm. Just one month ago, July 27th, the sun set in New York at approximately 7:04pm. We have lost more than an hour of daylight in the last 30 days. So, when do we officially turn the clocks back?
Time and Date reports that daylight savings time will end on Sunday November 3, 2024 at 2am. At that time we will turn our clocks back 1 hour making sunrise and sunset 1 hour earlier. The sun will set in New York at 4:49pm on Sunday November 3rd.
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School for Public Health indicates that daylight savings time was invented by Benjamin Franklin as an attempt to conserve energy. It wasn't until World War 1 that this concept was accepted globally.
