Will Christmas Tree Shops Be Closing Their New York Locations?
On April 23, 2023 the former retail giant Bed Bath and Beyond filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and now the process of closing many of it's locations in New York and around the country begins. The Albany store near Colony Center Mall will be accepting returns through the end of May.
Now reports are that another retail big box store could be filling for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This one is inside Colony Center. What is the fate for the New York locations of Christmas Tree Shops (CTS)?
According to the Christmas Tree Shops website, there are currently 14 New York store locations including Albany, Syracuse and Poughkeepsie. How much longer will these and other locations remain open? CBS News is reporting that CTS is preparing to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy but this isn't a guarantee of store closures.
Chapter 11 isn't the end of the road. It is really a way for firms to restructure, I look at, there are A, B, C, D stores. If you have A stores, you're not going to close those. But you may want to close the D stores. This allows them to restructure some of their debt. - Ken Morris of Cambridge Retail Advisors tells CBS News
CTS is based in Massachusetts with 15 locations and more than 80 locations around the country. The Boston Globe indicates that the stores will likely remain open under court supervision. Last August Christmas Tree Shops rebranded as CTS in an attempt to attract shoppers looking for more than Christmas Trees and decorations.
