New York Woman Hit By Car, Attacked With Machete In Front Of Kids

The New York State Police are reporting a shocking story out of Western New York's Chautauqua County. A 64-year-old was arrested after violently and brazenly attacking a woman in public in front of several kids.

Mary Butler was driving four children in her car on Route 380 in Jamestown, when she saw a woman walking alone on the side of the road. What led her to do what she next is unknown and deeply troubling.

Butler swerved to hit that woman with her auto, and after making contact, her violent actions took a dramatic step up. Butler exited her car with a machete and took a vicious swing at the woman. She proceeded to batter the victim with the flat side of the machete while the children looked on.

Butler left the scene before law enforcement arrived. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries Butler was arrested later at her home in Gerry. She now faces charges of second-degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Butler's relationship to the children she was carrying in her car has not been shared. It also remains unclear as to whether the women knew each other. No evidence or information has been released by State Police showing any connection. I don't know which is scarier: an attack like this on an unsuspecting adversary or on a totally random stranger.
