New Yorkers Are Urged to ‘Burp’ Their Homes Before The Next Storm
New York residents are strongly encouraged to burp their homes this winter, especially before the next snow storm arrives.
Before we do anything we need to figure out what "burping" a home means. According to the dictionary, burping means, "noisily release air from the stomach through the mouth" or "the act or an instance of belching". Belching means, "to help (a baby) expel gas from the stomach especially by patting or rubbing the baby's back". Ok but how does this apply to a home?

The practice of burping a home traces back to Germany but they call it Luften. Luften, or burping, is the act of opening windows and doors to allow the stuffy and stale indoor air to leave the home and replace it with fresh outdoor air, even in the winter months.
