How Much Rain Has The Capital Region Had This Summer?
In early June we were all praying for dry weather because we saw so many consecutive weekends that weren't dry. That was the running joke for us since November of 2024, but now in August of 2025 things are a bit different.
This summer in the Capital Region has been hot and dry, as predicted by the Farmer's Almanac. While they may had said we were set for a "scorcher", we didn't really feel that type of temperatures. It was hot, but manageable for the most part for us in Upstate New York. It also appears that we were lucky in terms of rainfall.
My good friend Christina Talamo shows that we are currently almost three inches below average for this time of year. Since June 1st we've had less than 10" of rain in Albany. That's pretty wild when you consider how we t we were in the spring.

Will we see rain pick up? If you're looking at that old Farmer's Almanac they say no. They say we can expect a very dry Autumn. At least for the beginning of the fall, because they also predict a cold and stormy finish before we head into the winter months.
First frost is predicted for October in many parts of Upstate New York, but that doesn't mean rain, just that we will need to start wearing our flannel a little bit sooner.
We're certainly not in a drought by any means, but no significant rainfall means that we're very dry. Just make sure to keep an extra eye on those camp or brush fires just to be extra safe.
