It is official. Albany has decided that instead of fixing the real problems within the city they will instead continue to mask it with arbitrary things like speed limit changes.

Living in the City of Albany I will agree that there is a significant speed problem in the City. People go way too fast on a majority of the roadways, especially Washington, Central, and Western Ave. Beginning January 1, 2025 people will have to slow down.

As a reminder to everyone The Mayor of Albany, Kathy Sheehan posted to social media that the new speed limit will be going from 30 mph to 25 mph. This of course following the new speed cameras added over the summer in several school zones in the city that resulted in thousands of tickets being issued to people during the fall.

While I don't think this is going to make the huge difference, I think the City thinks they're doing something incredible. I truly believe they think this is going to be some major change, but I can't see it slowing anyone down. If they were going 40-45 mph in a 30 why would they stop doing that in a 25?

There are currently many other issues going on in Albany that really need attention from the city. The violence on Lark Street and other areas of the city really needs to be looked at. Obviously figuring out what's going on at Central Warehouse, and the homeless problem. Also illegal drug use on the streets.

Not to mention why so many stores and businesses seem to be closing or passing up the Capital Region.

Maybe the speed limit change is a start, but it's also not the big game changer they think it will be. There's so much more that we need to fix in Albany to bring this city back.

Entire Albany New York Neighborhood Left Abandoned

This entre Guilderland, New York neighborhood has been vacant for years. Why did these residents leave? Why was so much left behind? Furniture, old photographs and school books still sit where they were last touch, as if time stood still.
