Enough! This New York State Senator Wants to Make You Stop Speeding
How many speeding tickets have you received in your lifetime? To my memory I have only had 2 speeding infractions in my 40 years of driving but that's not the case for everyone. According to k40 Electronics, more than 100,000 speeding tickets are issued every day in the United States. Will that number drop in the near future?
If one New York State Senator gets his way, it might become impossible for you to speed. Your vehicle literally won't be able to go over the speed limit.
New York State Senator, Democrat Andrew Gounardes proposed a bill that would allow for the installation of "speed-limiters" in your vehicle. Not every vehicle would have this device but if you are a repeat speeder or reckless driver this device would prevent your vehicle from exceeding the speed limit.
According to the Senator's Facebook page, New York drivers that accumulate 6 or more speeding or red light violations within a 12-month period would have an Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) installed in their vehicle. This device is similar to the alcohol breath tester that prevents a drunk driver from starting their vehicle if they have been drinking.
This is very similar to what we already do for drivers who are arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. We are taking the same concept and the same model and applying it to the speeding context. We know that when we slow our speed limits, we save lives. - Senator Andrew Goundares
