For most people, when the leaves on the trees start to change and the air has that crisp feeling in the morning you know fall is here and winter is right around the corner. Of course, I recognize those signs of the change in season too, but for the people in Averill Park, West Sand Lake, and everyone on Burden Lake the sign that fall is here is the announcement of the date Kay's Famous Pizza is closing for the season. This year, it's coming in 10 days. October 10th will be their last day making their amazing pizza for 2020.

This year was quite a challenge for Kay's Famous Pizza with social distancing and safety guidelines making it difficult just to open up this year. Kay's is famous for not only their pizza but also for not taking any reservations and huge crowds of people waiting in line to get in or pick-up a pie to go. That all had to change in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. They streamlined their pickup process to make it contact-free with a parking lot pick-up. They expanded their take-out business and opened the season with a limited, but still delicious menu.

My family almost always gets pizza on Friday night. It's a tradition that has been going on for a long, long time. We mentioned that to our realtor, Margret, when we moved to Averill Park and she immediately said, "You have to try Kay's Pizza, it's famous." Ever since Kay's has been in our pizza rotation as well as AJ's Pizza on RT 43, Bella Mae's...all great spots on the east side of the Hudson River for a unique, and delishous pizzas.

Now, let me let you in on a little secret about Kay's. They sell pizza kits. We buy several of them and put them in the freezer. Then during the "off-season" when we're craving Kay's we make our own.
