In an effort to keep increasing the minimum wage in New York state, another bump in wages takes effect this week. According to News Channel 13, get ready for the minimum wage to increase a bit starting Tuesday, December 31st. For most, the minimum wage will go from eleven dollars and ten cents up to eleven dollars and eighty cents.

As part of New York state's plan, the gradual increase will eventually reach fifteen dollars an hour. Minimum wage is already at fifteen dollars an hour in New York City businesses that carry more than eleven employees.

Some believe that a seventy cent increase is too much, too soon and could have a negative impact on small businesses. The goal is to have the minimum wage up to twelve dollars and fifty cents per hour by next year at this time and up to fifteen dollars an hour after the increases are all said and done.
