I am certain that police officers get a wide variety of calls to respond to. Reports of fender benders, breaking and entering and disturbing the peace are all probably common police calls. Every once and a while there is the unusual call.

Saratoga Springs Police Department received a call on Monday February 24th regarding a horse that had fallen though ice at a nearby pond. Officers sprung into action with hopes of saving one of our four-legged friends.

According to a post on the Saratoga Springs Police Department Facebook page, officers Kyle Clinton, Kris Camarro and Dom Martuscello rushed to the nearby scene to help rescue a horse named Sly, who had fallen through the ice, into the water, over his head.

Reports indicate that the owner of the horse was home at the time of the incident and immediately called police, fire, neighbors, friends and family to try to save Sly from drowning. WARNING: This video may be difficult for some to watch.

With a combination of determination by the Saratoga Springs Police Department, Saratoga Springs Fire Department and a team of good Samaritans they were able to pull Sly out of the water and get him to safety.

Once rescued from the icy water, Sly was taken to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga for a few days of observation and recovery under good care.
