Yes, these types of stores have insurance and some even account for these losses in their annual budgets. Is there anything that can be done to stop the theft and loss?
Catching suspects and arresting them seems to be a good place to start. New York State Police have arrested 2 individuals and charged them with Grand Larceny for theft at Target in Clifton Park, NY.
New York State Police News Room reports that Troopers responded to the Target location at 26 Crossing Boulevard in Clifton Park with reports of a theft in progress. As Troopers arrived, 2 suspects were exiting the store and the officers placed each of them in custody.

While placing each individual into custody, officers found a glass smoking device containing drug residue.
