An arrest involving a loaded gun took place Monday at Albany International  Airport.

According to a press release from tsa.gov, TSA officers discovered a .380 caliber handgun loaded with six bullets in the carry-on bag of a Southwest Airlines co-pilot. The firearm was discovered as it went through the x-ray machine and a TSA officer immediately contacted the Albany County Sheriff's Deputy who confiscated the gun and arrested the co-pilot on a weapon's charge. This is the second time since late March that the TSA officers have confiscated a loaded firearm at the Albany airport. A loaded .45 caliber handgun was found in a passenger's carry-on bang back on March 27. In the press release, the TSA states "As a reminder, firearms, firearm parts and ammunition-are not permitted in carry-on bags, but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline." Individuals who do bring handguns to a checkpoint can face criminal charges and fines up to $12,000.

The TSA website gives details on how to properly travel with a firearm, if you have any questions. Check the link here for info. Have you ever knowingly traveled with a handgun, not knowing of the repercussions?
