A Christmas Movie Is Filming Right Here In the Capital Region

Hollywood returns to the Capital Region with the filming of a new holiday movie currently underway in Saratoga Springs and Albany. Some of the familiar faces you will see on screen are well known celebrities and others are folks from around the Spa City.

According to WNYT, Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan is one of the celebrities that will star in a new Christmas film with the working title 'A Christmas Spin', and much of the filming is taking place around the Capital Region.

Background actor Bill Trojann posted on the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink Facebook page that 'A Christmas Spin' is a Netflix project featuring, not only Nancy Kerrigan but also, actress April Bowlby. You might know Bowlby best from her role as Kandi on the television show 'Two and a Half Men'.

The social media post goes on to indicate the production moved from Saratoga Springs Ice Rink, featuring an NHL size rink, to Albany's MVP Arena over the weekend and is expected to wrap up on Monday.

Beyond the famous faces and big names, much of the cast and crew are local to various parts of Upstate New York. Producer Michael Buttiglieri, known for his work on 'Tangles' and 'Exit Interviews', is from Syracuse and he believes in utilizing the talent from the area.

More and more often Hollywood has come knocking on the doors of the Capital Region when it comes to making holiday films. In 2024 Hallmark was in Albany for the filming of 'Like Nobody's Business' starring Rachel Lee Cook.
